Easy Receipt for Sausage

The combination of sausage, peppers, and onions is an Italian American classic. Often served on a sub or in a bun, this dish is also excellent, just eaten out of a bowl. Though usually made on the stove, we love this baked version for easy cleanup and a simple process. Don't feel like turning on the oven? Check out these Sausage & Peppers Foil Packs.

What do you eat with sausage and peppers?

Not into the idea of a sausage and pepper sub? Again, this recipe is great by itself, but you can also smother it inhomemade marinara and serve it with your favorite pasta shape. Or you can let us know how you spruce it up in the comments below!

What kind of sausage should you use?

We went with classic Italian sausage for this recipe, and you can use either hot or sweet links, depending on your tolerance for spicy. If you're ready to step outside the box, try another spicy sausage like merguez, chorizo, or andouille.

What kind of peppers are best for sausage, peppers, & onions?

For the peppers, you can choose whatever color bell peppers you want, but we like to make it colorful by using a variety. Though we know some folks don't love green peppers, so feel free to skip out on them if that sounds like you. But if you're a pepperfiend, why not try one of our 26 recipes for stuffed peppers.

What kind of onions are best for sausage, peppers, and onions?

That part is truly up to you. Yellow onions are our favorite candidate, but red onion (hello, extra pop of color!) or white onion would also be delicious. Be sure to cut them to roughly the same size as the peppers to ensure everything cooks evenly.

Can you freeze sausage peppers and onions?

Freezing cooked sausage (rather than raw) prolongs the freezer life of the sausage because it is less prone to freezer damage. Freeze in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months or keep in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
